The CPPC and the Surety Association of Canada will continue to offer the half-day workshops on surety instruments that have been so popular over the past couple of years. Our western tour is scheduled for the first week of April this year, with a workshop in Victoria (BC), April 2, Lethbridge (AB) on April 3 and in Winnipeg (MB) on April 4. Workshops for Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Northern Ontario are also in the works for this spring.
The workshops will include: a review of surety instruments used in the procurement and contract management process; an outline of the differences between surety instruments and alternatives forms of security, i.e. contract default insurance and letters of credit; a review of three separate case studies where surety bonds were called, claims made and the subsequent outcome; as well as discussion regarding what might have resulted if alternative forms of security were in place; and an update on e-Bonding.
